HOW TO APPLY at Western Cape College of Nursing for the 2025 academic year?

The following certified documents are required for the online application and should be uploaded.

  • Identity document National Senior Certificate, no statement of results will be accepted. Applicants currently in Grade 12, must submit marks obtained at the end of grade 11 together with your most recent Grade 12 marks 
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable) 
  • If you are upgrading your marks submit proof from Western Cape Education Department If you are a qualified nurse submit certificate of registration (SANC), SANC Annual Practicing certificate 
  • Proof of payment (Application fee R250 NOT REFUNDABLE). 
  • Certified documents must not be older then 3 months
  • NB If you attended any higher education institution, an original Academic Record and a certificate of conduct will be verified during the interview process). 
  • Certificates/ diplomas/degrees obtained previously, in a case where the name on the National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification differs from the name of the national identity document and on the application form, evidence needs to be uploaded on the application system. 
  • The same applies when the ID number differs.

 

 

 

Western Cape College of Nursing Application Admission Requirements and Available Courses for 2025 Applications

Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery (GNR174)

The Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery (R174) is a four-year program where, for the duration of the course, you will gain practical experience at hospitals and various clinical facilities.

Prospective candidates need to comply with the following minimum admission requirements:

Matriculants from 2008 (Compulsory Subjects) and minimum rating scale:

  • First Additional Language: English code 4
  • Home Language code 4
  • Mathematics code 4 or Mathematical Literacy code 5
  • Life Science code 4 or Physical Science code 4
  • Minimum total APS score of 27
  • Minimum matriculation National Senior Certificate with Bachelor endorsement.

Matriculants (Prior 2008):

  • English HG/D or SG/C
  • First Additional Language HG/D or SG/C
  • Mathematics HG/D or SG/C
  • Biology HG/D or SG/C or Physical Science HG/D or SG/D
  • Minimum matriculation senior certificate with matric exemption.

Upon successful completion of training, you will be registered with the South African Nursing Council in the category Professional Nurse and Midwife.

  • Metro Campus (Athlone)

 

Diploma in Nursing (GNR171)

The Diploma in General Nursing (R171) is a three-year program, leading to registration with the South African Nursing Council as a General Nurse. The program consists of theory and clinical components which must be completed in each academic year. Prospective candidates need to comply with the following minimum admission requirements:

Matriculants from 2008 (Compulsory Subjects) and minimum rating scale:

  • First Additional Language: English code 4
  • Home Language code 4
  • Mathematics code 3 or Mathematical Literacy code 4
  • Life Science code 4 or Physical Science code 4
  • Minimum total score of 24
  • Minimum matriculation endorsement/Diploma

Matriculants (Prior 2008):

  • English HG/E or SG/D
  • First Additional Language HG/E or SG/D
  • Mathematics HG/E or SG/D
  • Biology HG/E or SG/D or Physical Science HG/E or SG/E
  • Minimum matriculation endorsement/Diploma

OR

  • A Certificate in Nursing Auxiliary (R2176) with a matric
  • A Certificate in Enrolled Nurse (R2175) with a matric
  • A Higher Certificate in Nursing (R169) (Proof of enrollment and registration with SANC in the above-mentioned qualifications)
  • Minimum matriculation senior certificate with matric exemption.

Upon successful completion of training, you will be registered with the South African Nursing Council in the category General Nurse.

  • South Cape Karoo Campus (George)

 

Higher Certificate in Nursing (GCNR169)

The one-year Higher Certificate in Nursing is a one-year program. The objective of this program is to prepare prospective nursing care in all health care settings. The program builds on the competencies of the previous minimum admission requirements:

Minimum Admission Requirements:

  • Matric from 2008: Compulsory Subjects
    • Home Language or First Additional Language
    • Life Sciences grade 3
    • Mathematics core or Mathematical Literacy grade 2
  • Minimum total score of 24 (See Annexure)
  • Life Science matriculation endorsement/higher certificate pass

Minimum Age:

  • Must be at least seventeen (17) years old on registration.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Must have completed and passed Higher Certificate.

Study Method / Presentation Mode:

  • Full-time at campus

Campus Affiliation:

  • Metro Campus Abuja (Worcester)
  • Boland/Overberg Campus (Caledon)
  • South Cape Karoo Campus (George)

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID

Students are to finance their studies at the Western Cape College of Nursing, as there is currently no financial aid available to students. The  College do however, accept bursaries, please visit healthsciencecolleges.co.za for more information regarding the Health Bursary.
