Purpose of the Qualification

The Higher Certificate in Education aims to:

  • Provide access to candidates with potential, who otherwise would not meet the minimum entry requirements for degree studies.
  • Facilitate articulation into the UNISA Bachelor of Education Foundation and Intermediate phase qualifications.

Application Forms

  • Manual Applications Only: Forms are available at the George Campus, Mossel Bay Campus, and Oudtshoorn Campus.

 

Admission Requirements

To apply, you need one of the following:

National Senior Certificate (NSC)

  • APS Score: 18
  • Minimum 40% in Language of Teaching and Learning.

Senior Certificate (SC)

  • Grade: E on HG or D on SG in Language of Teaching and Learning.

National Certificate Vocational (NCV)

  • Minimum 40% in Language of Teaching and Learning.

 

Required Certified Documents (Not Older Than 3 Months)

  • Copy of your school qualifications.
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic records (if applicable).
  • Copy of your identity document / smart ID card (both sides).
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of address in applicant’s name.
  • Previous UNISA student number (if applicable).
  • Active email address.

 

NSFAS Bursaries

  • Conditions Apply: Applications for NSFAS bursaries should be made online via the NSFAS portal starting from September 2024.
