About Northlink  TVET College

Northlink College is a nationally registered TVET under the National Department of Higher Education (DHET), established in 2009 to develop a coherent and comprehensive post-school system. The DHET focuses on improving individuals' lives, contributing to the national economy, and fostering an equitable South African society through effective planning and coordination of education and vocational training. The imminent TVET Colleges Amendment Bill will shift administrative functions from provinces to the Minister of Higher Education, enhancing the creation of a unified post-school system to address skills supply challenges comprehensively.

1. What happens after I submit my application?

Your application will be checked for completeness. If it is incomplete, you will be asked to upload any outstanding documents. Complete applications will be referred to the relevant Programme Manager for selection. You will receive feedback on your application and guidelines on the next steps.

2. Can I apply if I have only completed Grade 9 to study at the College?

Yes, you can apply to study any of our National Certificate Vocational (NCV) programmes if you have passed Grade 9.

3. Can I come to the campus to do a manual application?

Northlink College no longer accepts manual applications. Only online applications are allowed. Applicants are encouraged to use the detailed, step-by-step How-To Guide to complete online applications. If you need assistance, you may visit a campus.

5. How do I track my application status?

Go to Northlink and click login. Insert your student number and PIN. Your status will be displayed under Application information.

6. Can I apply using my Birth Certificate?

Yes, you can apply with your birth certificate, but an ID will be required at registration if you are 16 years or older.

7. Which documents do I need to have for my application?

You need proof of address, a certified copy of your ID, and a certified copy of your latest (passed) results.

8. What does my application status mean?

  • Ready for selection: Your application has been checked and is ready for a Programme Manager to process it.
  • No Status/Blank: Your application is incomplete because you did not upload the required documents. It will not be processed until all required documents are uploaded.
  • Required documents not uploaded: You do not meet the minimum requirements for the course you applied for.
  • Rejected: You have submitted your application.
  • Admitted: You have been provisionally accepted, provided you comply with all registration requirements.
  • Waiting List: You met the minimum requirements, but there is no space. You will be considered for admission if some admitted applicants do not register.

9. Can I apply to upgrade my Grade 12 at Northlink College?

No, Northlink College does not offer Grade 12. We offer qualifications in NCV, Nated, Occupational, Short Courses, Skills, CBMT, and Trade Tests.

10. Does Northlink College offer student accommodation?

Yes, Northlink College has student accommodation at the Belhar and Tygerberg Campuses. Interested applicants should indicate this when completing their application for admission.

11. I already submitted my application, how do I upload my documents?

Go to Northlink, click on Login, then go to Student enquiry → Certificate seen.

12. What if Northlink residences are full, can I apply at other residences?

Yes, you can apply at Northville Student accommodation. Interested applicants can inquire at Northville.

13. Does Northlink College have other branches outside of Cape Town?

No, Northlink College has seven campuses, all situated in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.
